Jacob Caggiano graduated from Fairhaven College in Spring 2007 with a self-designed concentration titled “Society and the Media that Shape it.” He said, “I consider myself very fortunate that I became curious about media and its effect on me and those around me, but even more so, I feel fortunate that I was able to customize my education around asking these monumental, yet often overlooked questions. Questions such as, “How do messages cause us to believe the things we believe and why?” How are these messages used to create and harness systems of power and oppression in the world? And most importantly for me, what kind of alternative messages can we create to mitigate the suffering of life on earth and foster a more sustainable and equitable future?”
