Margaret ‘Gret’ Antilla – Bio
Gret is the current Executive Director of CIEL, having joined the organization in October 2008. The opportunity to serve students and faculty by advancing the ability of higher education to meet their needs in highly complex, global context is exciting and challenging. Her background spans a 30 year career in higher education and her interests have been in individualized, learning-centered, problem-based, interdisciplinary curriculum design where both faculty members and student collaborate to meet essential learning outcomes and develop scholarship.
Gret has been associated with Prescott College, a small private institution whose motto is for the Liberal Arts, the Environment and Social Justice. She has served the institution in a variety of capacities since 1987. She recently retired as the dean of the undergraduate resident program from 1999 until 2008, and currently holds a faculty position in Education. She also served as the dean of Prescott College’s community-based adult undergraduate program from 1987 until 1990, where she experienced the reward of preparing non-traditional students to return to an academic environment.
Her background includes working with K-12 public schools, private schools, grassroots environmental organizations and youth at risk programs. She has served on several boards of directors, including the local community college board of trustees. As a third generation Arizonan, she resides in Prescott, Arizona, maintaining an older adobe home and a small herd of animals.
“I believe that we teach to create transformational experiences for students and therefore are susceptible to being transformed as well. The more we engage in the work of being liberal artists ourselves and assisting students to have a depth as well as breadth of knowledge, we can meet the changes the global century will bring.”
