Pitzer College is a member of the Claremont Colleges, a five college consortium, located in Southern California about 35 miles east of Los Angeles. Pitzer has a diverse student population of approximately 950, half of which come from states outside of California. Students and faculty share resources and cross-register with the other Claremont campuses.

Pitzer is a progressive college known for its academic excellence and student learning outcomes focusing on intercultural understanding and social responsibility. Pitzer College is one of 81 institutions in 33 states that the Princeton Review has named as a “college with a conscience with outstanding community involvement.”  Emphasis is placed on social justice and community involvement through classes such as “Teaching in Prisons” and “Community-Based Spanish,” as well as many other community based service learning programs.

Pitzer has a strong commitment to intercultural and international education, with 60% of every graduating class having studied abroad. Pitzer classes are often comprised of international students, as well as Pitzer students who have returned from or are preparing to study abroad. Pitzer offers a variety of interdisciplinary, research based and team taught courses with an average class size of 12-14 students.
