Inward Spiral
by Willow Misterly, Fairhaven College
My aim in these prints is to express individual feeling of attachment between mother and child. I have compared my personal perceptions and ideas about security with home and family with a book called The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. Lily, the main character, has suffered Reactive Attachment Disorder because her mom died when she was a by and her dad is extremely abusive. She runs away in search for answer to the mystery of her mother. Three African American sisters take Lily under their wings and rekindle the power of love and security that Lily has been lacking for so many years. Reading and research about humanisitic issues helps me create a visual dialogue that speaks about cultural and social issues about internal emotions as well as stimuli found in natural and built environment."
