Mark
by Angela M. Bocchino

The day we met
we pulled each other
To our feet:
A symbol of unity.
Our backs against each other,
I could not see your face
Your name I hardly knew,
But I trusted in you,
You trusted in me,
We did not let each other fall.
Once I knew you
I learned
How easily you did fall,
I tried
To lift you up
With prayers, wishes, thoughts
Whatever I hoped might work.
At your weakest most desperate moments,
You lifted me
My hope and spirit
With your humor and vibrant outlook.
Laid to eternal rest,
You can no longer lift me up,
But though I cannot see your face
Memories of you carry me on.
