Peace
by Christine Gervase

Over in the distance,
Beyond the dark forests
And across the thunderous oceans,
There is a quarrel, far, far away.
A quarrel that screams for innocent blood
Driven but never ceasing, red hate.

Even from the distance, I hear those cries.
Cries desperate for salvation,
Whether it be for themselves,
Their loved ones,
Or this deteriorating earth.

One day, may it be near or far,
There will shine a light
And a hope will spread through silence
Across the lands.
The world will be filled
With appreciation, passion and love
For man and nature as one.

A day will come when the violence will cease,
And the wind will carry
A song of peace.

Christine Gervase is a student at Daemen College, Buffalo, New York.
