Peeing in Beauty
by Kelly Ramer

Layered cliffs collide in the
dark green of eucalyptus.
The lolling screeches of
kookaburras are near silenced by
the ever colliding waves
that rush to become
white as they reach the shore.

Innumerable shades of blue
span paradisiacal,
I squat to pee in the small
shadow of a rock.

I look down on my
stream, seeing the
wheat colored sand
ripen with my relief.

Encompassed in that
misshapen circle,
lies a small crab,
grey and purple, then
white around the edges, next to her
corpse bits of
seaweed & colored rocks.

Kelly G. Ramer is completing her third year at Fairhaven College, a part of Western Washington University. She was born and raised in Minneapolis , MN , but has since sworn off winters of that extreme. She is pursuing a concentration titled: Globalization: a study through the lens of Culture, Language and Literature. She hopes to continue her education in a graduate program in Diplomacy and International relations. However she plans to spend at least a year in Mexico after graduation before continuing her education so that she can perfect her Spanish and catch up on lost sunshine.
